Steve Lautenschlager is a particle physicist, professional software developer, Kansas Citian, cyclist and amateur photographer...among other things.

I began photography as a teenager with a fully manual Ricoh 35mm film camera. As the world moved toward digital photography I fell out of taking pictures, but never lost my love for beautiful images.

In 2011 I finally returned with the purchase of the Canon T3i--the sweet spot in my opinion between consumer and professional cameras. I'm blown away by all the features and capabilities of the new digital 35mm cameras.

However, I have to admit I sometimes still long for my Ricoh. It was so simple to use. Slight aperture or shutter adjustments were easy. I have discovered some easy ways to do things with this fancy new camera, but I still have a lot to learn.
